This work is intended to investigate the mechanical properties of paper sheet with particular emphasis of the effect of local microscopic deformation under tensile stress on overall strength properties of paper.
For this purpose the interference holography-based moire fringe pattern was utilized in this work.
A unique strain distribution measuring system in combination with laser holography and image processing method was devised and constructed.
The interference holography was found to provide information on the two dimensional strain distributions in paper sample without direct contact with the sample.
The following is the summary of the results obtained by this method.
1. Interference holography measuring system is capable of recording clear interference moire image and permits visualization of the strain distribution of paper under tensile stress.
2. The different deformation, that is elastic deformation and plastic deformation, provides different moire fringe pattern.
3. The laser interference holography measuring system has potential applications to detailed analysis of physical properties of paper by non-contacts means.
