Recently die coating has been attracting attention because of several advantages over roll coating. The suitable design of a die nozzle is the key to obtaining a good coated surface in die coating under various conditions. Numerical simulation is an effective method to design the optimum die nozzle. It is very important to use a solver suitable for an object of analysis in numerical simulation.
In this work we, using the solver “Nekton”, analyzed a die coating flow, and compared the result of the analysis with the experimental data about :
(1) the relationship between the capillary number and the minimum wet thickness
(2) the relationship between the bead vacuum and the minimum wet thickness
(3) the relationship between the fluid viscosity and minimum wet thickness with bead vacuum.
As a result we have found the same tendency with the experimental data and confirmed that this solver is applicable to die coating.
