Part 10 inquires analytically into the axial contraction of crepe yarns with the use of model viscose yarn of an ideal helical structure. The force which regulates yarn contraction has been found to consist of (1) compression force induced by tensions developed in fibers outside the neutral layer and acting on the yarn section, and (2) opposite force originating from the swelling tension of fibers within the neutral layer. In the light of the relation between a decrease in fiber tension and yarn contraction, analyses have been made of the contraction force of yarn during contraction and the limit to yarn contraction. Kinks produced in the axis of crepe yarn which has contracted to the limit have been acertained to be the final means to remove internal stress.
