Abstract
The present report identified the digested remains in the corpse's stomach using the scanning electron microscope. The specimens were obtained from an about 20 years old female eat 2 month postmortem time. The digested remains were 0.8×2.0 cm in size and were a dirty reddish-purple color. As these specimens in the stomach were very similar in macroscopic features to the pericarp of kidney beans, we also observed the pericarps of uncooked, fried and boiled kidney beans using the scanning electron microscope for the control specimens. The ultrastructures of the digested remains were observed as remarkable deformations caused by cooking, digestion and putrefaction. However, the spiral vessels and stomata, quite similar in ultrastructures to those of the control specimens, were recognized. On these grounds, we identified the examined specimens as digested remains of the pericarps of kidney beans.
