Abstract
Following the last study (No. 8414) with the same title, this study aims to consider how housing for the aged should be with a focus on their decreasing psychophysiological functions, and to provide a new direction for housing for the aged in Japan. Based on the definition of the concept and the basic study in the last report, it is especially aimed in this study to present problems in the status quo and conditions to establish a desirable type of housing. The following three themes are considered through researches on the actual conditions.
1) The type of housing for the aged:
Conditions of care services and substance of housing for the aged were mainly studied in the last research. In this study, we try to grasp the actual conditions of publicly supplied housing and locally and systematically functioning care services such as medical care and social welfare.
2) The needs for housing for the aged:
The needs for housing by age was studied in the last report. This year we consider them with a focus on psychophysiological functions, since we try to understand that the needs for housing for the aged change to accommodate for the diminishing activities. The survey reveals the potential needs which are difficult to grasp. For example, in view of physical ability to utilize housing, it is clarified that those who are “healthy by self report” also have the needs for housing for the aged.
3) The needs for the care services for the senile staying at home:
The care services and the housing accommodations at nursing homes for senile dementia were observed in the last research. We examined, in this study, the life and the care services for the senile staying at home. The special needs for the senile staying at home bring a problem in coping with physical functions and nursing quality and methods.
