Abstract
Since1990, the Old Dilapidated Housing Rebuilding Programme has been implemented together with the Urban Redevelopment as well as the Housing System Reform in Beijing. In this paper, the Chongwen District was selected as the case study, the actual conditions of the residents and their way of perception were described through informal interviews. In this process, it was pointed out that there had been polarization between those who enjoy a new habitation space and those who cannot but transfer to a great distance; and that the programme did not take into consideration negative impact enough on people's social life and their feeling of discontent.
