After the World War II, there are many residential areas developed by the concepts of neighborhood unit in to resolve the housing problems in Japan and in Taiwan. Due to the rapid social and economic changes during these decades, the planned residential areas gradually dissatisfy the needs of residents in their everyday lives. hi this study, we focus on the concepts of neighborhood unit, which were practiced in Taiwan from the viewpoint of married women's purchasing activities. We find that the traditional retail market and the diversity of purchasing facilities in neighborhood unit are important.
