Abstract
This paper focuses on old Japanese official residences and company houses constructed during the Japanese administration period in Micronesia. From the end of World War I to the end of World War II Micronesia area was under Japanese influence for 30 years. This paper compares old Japanese official residences and company houses in Micronesia with those in Japan and other Japanese colonial areas by using some contemporary drawings, results of field surveys conducted by us in Micronesia and other studies. The old Japanese official residences and company houses in Micronesia had various characteristic devices to mitigate tropical climate.
