Regulations concerning building use

with focus on housing

Abstract

Regulations on building use in Japan are stipulated in the Building Standard Law and the City Planning Law. This article describes origin and transition of the regulations with focus on housing. This article also examines the relationship between housing and other building use, new trend of housing, and the way of controlling building use in consideration of local feature in the era of building stock with an eye on society of falling population.
