The increase of vacant houses is becoming a serious problem in preservation districts for groups of historical buildings, especially in small cities. In order to get suggestions for addressing the problem, this paper reports on the following two points through a case study of Yame-Fukushima Preservation District for groups of historical of buildings, where the advanced renovation system of vacant houses is implemented. One point is examination of what caused a building to become vacant. The other point is describing the process and the contents of the system.
