Abstract

This study shows that after 2000, the “Center-Living Room” plan of detached house has become more popular than the “Center-Corridor” plan-type. It has also been appearing in larger house with “Stairs in Living Room” style in about 80% of them. Meanwhile, house with “Zashiki” are decreasing remarkably and housing without a “Tatami room” are common recently. This tendency is caused by the increasing trend for useful family space. In the opinion of residents, the “Center-Living Room” is desirable because of the progress of air-conditioning technology. Finally this study references associated planning problems of “Center-Living Room” type housing.
