Abstract

In this research we aim to clarify how the people in the middle ages and early modern ages had comprehended Shinden-zukuri of ancient time and constructed their ideal image of living space, through the study on The Tale of genji during the middle ages and early modern period. Kacho - yosei attempted to study the restoration of Shinden-zukuri in the 15th century but contains the architectural understandings of the middle ages. The drawings of Rokuj yo - in the 15th and 17th century attempted to draw the Shinden, but failed to draw the correct formation of Shinden-zukuri. Gengo - zushou and Genji - Ruijyushou produced by Matsuoka yukiyoshi in the 19th century enabled the visual restoration of Shinden-zukuri by using Uramatsu Kozen 's study.
