Abstract
This study surveys living conditions and residents’ intention to the settlement in coastal areas of Kushimoto, Wakayama Prefecture through interview and questionnaires to the residents. We analyze the data to figure out maintenance of social relations and intention of relocation to higher areas. 1) There is a major gap in the degree of intention to relocation, and so we divide them into 3 groups as the degree; reject, passive and positive. 2) The reject group consists of elderly and unwaged people, and they have day to day mutual assistance with the nearest neighbors alone. 3) Younger people seem to accept relocation, and therefore measures for driving relocation forward can be split into young and elderly people.
