This study clarifies the transformation of industrialized housing in Japan since the period of mass production, from the perspective of “commercialization”. The results show that the characteristics of industrialized housing has been divided into several trends, such as separation of building system and products, three-story houses, Japanese-style and Western-style houses, among others. The study also identified two directions of technological development: one is to create a single product for a specific demographic, and the other is to coordinate the entire product allowing residents to select various components. In addition, changes in building system were identified for a variety of finishes.
