Abstract
A new surgical technique for perineal hernia was designed using polypropylene (PP) mesh and was evaluated in 30 dogs diagnosed with perineal hernia. This technique was applicable in all cases regardless of the size or condition of the hernias and did not cause any severe postoperative complications. Hernia recurred in two dogs within a year after the surgery but was successfully repaired by re-fixation of the PP mesh. In the other 28 cases, the outcome was favorable without recurrence for more than one year after the surgery. These results indicate that the technique is very useful for repair of perineal hernia.
