Abstract
A total of 91 serum samples from suckling piglets and 14 colostric serum samples from mother sows were examined for protein contents by means of paper electrophoresis. The results obtained are summarized as follows.
A. Serum protein of piglets.
1. Immediately after birth.(See table)
2. Twelve hours after the beginning of suckling.(See table)
3. The albumin/globulin ratio was the highest in suckling piglets at four weeks of age, when the ratio was 1.14±0.47.
B. Colostric serum protein. The paper-electrophoretic pattern of colostric serum protein was divided into four peaks according to mobility. The fourth peak showed a value of 66.06±7.69 per cent immediately after parturition. It seemed that this peak might be related to gamma-globulin of the serum protein of piglets.
