Abstract
Dairy cows diagnosed as ketosis were treated with MgSO4·7H2O and glucose by the intravenous route. Of 30 cows with ketosis of digestive type, 18 recovered from the disorder within 5 days on the average after this treatment alone, remaining free from recurrence. When the other cows treated with some other therapeutics simultaneously were taken into consideration, the total number of days of treatment was 6 days on the average in the 30 cows. The average dose administered was 49g for magnesium sulfate and 946g for glucose.
Of 9 cows affected with ketosis of neural type, 4 belonged to the tetanic type and 5 to the comatose type. Treatment with magnesium sulfate and glucose showed the same effect upon the neural type as the digestive type, bringing recovery to that type in 5 days on the average.
