SPF Pekinese ducks were administered intraperitoneally or orally with 107.5 organisms of Salmonella pullorum per capita or intranasally with 108.5 organisms of this species per capita. Of them, one-day-old ducks administered intraperitoneally with S. pullorum manifested symptoms and some of them died. No clinical signs were exhibited in ducks 1, 24, or 180 days old administered orally with S. pullorum. This organism was recovered from liver, spleen, kidney, and intestinal contents in these ducks 4 and 7 days after administration. Agglutination antibody was produced by some of these ducks.
Ducks 24 or 180 days old inoculated intranasally with H. paragallinarum showed no clinical symptoms and were negative for bacterial recovery. Some of them produced agglutination antibody. Therefore, the duck seemed to have low susceptibility to both species of organisms.
