In August and September in 1975 and 1976, 62.5% of young boars infected with Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) manifested scrotal enlargement accompanied with pyrexia. Of these boars sacrificed within 5 days after the appearance of this enlargement, six harbored 102.3-106.3 TCID50/g of JEV.No virus was isolated from any boar 6 days or more after the appearance.
The fluorescent antibody technique revealed antigen of JEV present in the protoplasm of spermatogonia and primary spermatocytes.
