Abstract
A total of 62 leukotic cows from the Tokachi district in Hokkaido were classified into four types (10 into the calf, 18 into the thymic, 3 into the skin, and 31 into the adult types). BLV antibodies were positive in all the cases, except one in the adult type leukosis and only one case in the thymic type was positive in all of the other types leukosis.
The most common clinical findings of leukotic cows investigated were swelling of superficial and medial iliac lymph nodes. In addition the authors became to know that highly swelling of the thymus, nodular or urticaria-like lesions of the general skin and palpation of tumor mass in pelvic cavity and posterior abdomen was beneficial to diagnosis of the thymic type, the skin type, ana some cases of the adult type bovine leukosis, respectively.
As for the investigation of lymph node swelling, it was become cleared that consideration of the increase of short radius in lymph nodes was especially beneficial to diagnosis this disease by measuring of the control cows.
The other clinical findings of leukotic cows investigated showed close relations to the tumor lesions, but these were not considered to be characteristic findings for the diagnosis of this disease.
