Abstract
Cows grazing in some pasture frequently secreted milk unstable for the alcohol test, while those grazing in another pasture did not. A survey revealed that they had been fed abundant roughage and little sodium chloride. When they were fed this mineral sufficiently, sodium increased in level in their milk to make the Na/K ratio high and they became negative for the alcohol test.
When prednisolone was administered, the cows secreted milk low in Na level and Na/K ratio and became positive for the alcohol test. When administered with membutone, they secreted milk high in those level and ratio and became negative for this test.
