Abstract
Six calves 15 days old received a daily dose of 20mg/kg of furazolidone with a milk replacer. They began to show peculiar signs at 4-5 days of medication. Two of them died at 5-6 days, one was condemned at 8 days, and the other 3 recovered. Then 10 days later the 3 calves were given the same dose of furazolidone. They showed the same signs, and one of them died 3 day later, when another was discarded.
The clinical signs were depression and acute hyperexcitability with loud squawking and rapid jumps. After showing nervous signs of extended rigid legs and opisthotonus, calves succumbed.
