Abstract
Six goat kids, 12 to 35 days old, from a farm in Tokachi district of Hokkaido, showed recumbency, stiffness, cyanosis and tachycardia as well as markedly increased levels of serum GOT, CPK, LDH, LDH1 and LDH5. Electrocardiogram showed elevation or depression of ST segment and ventricular premature beat. Serum selenium and tocopherol levels were very low. Pathologically, severe degeneration was shown in the skeletal and left ventricular and interventricular muscle.
