The relationship of metallic foreign bodies in the reticulum as viewed radiofluorscopically and the value of weight gain in heifers were investigated to find out a development arrest factor at a public rearing stall. Metallic foreign bodies were observed in 16.7% of 78 heifers. Weight gains of heifers with foreign bodies sticking to the reticular wall were lower than the standard value listed in the Holstein Cattle Association of Japan for period of rearing. The study therefore, suggests that metallic foreign bodies sticking or stimulating reticular wall appear to be one of the development arrest factors in heifer feeding.
