Abstract

A hen's egg-sized tumor was detected in the abdominal cavity of a rooster of 40, 000 Chanky Strain broilers subjected to meat inspection. Its pathologic examination disclosed a teratomawhich was composed of three germ layers. The ectodermal layer consisted of the predominant central nervous tissue including periperal nerve fiber bundles, accumulation of ocular ciliary cells, differentiated cutaneous tissue as well as feather follicles. In the endodermal tubular arrangements, tracheal columnar epithelial cells, intestinal Goblet cells were distributed. The mesodermal layer had well differentiated cartilage, several smooth and striated muscle fibers, foci of lymphocytes, myxomatous connective tissue, and adipose tissue.
