Abstract
Endoscopic surveys were performed twice (at2 and at3 years of age) on78 draft racehorses (64 males and 14 females). At the same times, the animals' body height, neck length, and intermandibular width were measured. The prevalence of idiopathic laryngeal hemiplegia (ILH) was33.3% at2 years and48.7% at3 years, indicating that laryngeal asymmetry may occur before2 years of age. No significant correlation between ILH and body size was observed at either age. There was no significant difference in ILH prevalence between males and females.
