An experiment was carried out to observe the movement of the gastrointes-tinal content in the chncken. In it, l mZ, 3 ml or 6 ml of the marker, Na."Cry., was admin-istered pes os to the proventriculus of a restrained conscious chicken. The distribution ofthe marker in the gastro-intestine was investigated in each group.l. In the proventriculus, the marker scarcely existed immediately after administrationwith the lapse of time.2.. On the other hand, when l mZ of the marker was administered, its content in thegizzard was larger 40 minutes than 20 minutes after administration, while its content inthe central segment of the small intestine was smaller 40 minutes than 2, 0 minutes afteradministration. The decreased quantity of its content in the central segment of the smallintestine was almost equal to the increased quantity of its content in the gizzard 40 minutesafter administration, while there was no difference in quantity between the content in theduodenum and the upper segment of the small intestine 20 minutes after administrationand that 40 minutes after administration. The same results were obtained when 3 mZ and6 ml of the naarker were administered and observation was made 40 and 60 minutes afteradministration.3. These results suggested that some portion of the content of the small intestinemight have regurgitated into the gizzard through the upper segment of the small in-testine and the duodenum.
