Anaerobes Isolated from Ulcerative Endocarditis and Purulent Pericarditis of Cattle and Swine

Abstract

Bacteriological studies were performed on 11 bovine and 19 swine cases ofulcerative endocarditis and purulent pericarditis detected at post-mortem inspection.Anaerobes were isolated from lesions of hearts of 3 bovine and 3 swine cases. These isolateswere Peptostreptococcus intermedius (1 case), Peptostreptococcus anaerobius (2 cases), Bifidobacterium longum (1 case), Fusobacterium gonidiaformans (1 case), Fusobacteriumnecrophorum (1 case) and Eubacteriurn sp. (1 case). Veillonella parvula (1 case) andPeptococcus asaccharolyticus (1 case) were isolated from other specimens.
