Abstract
This article describes various challenges of "visualization" for product development from the viewpoint of manufacturing. Firstly we introduced machine vision system using temperature sensitive paint to acquire surface temperature distributions. The system can measure painted surface temperature through glass, transparent acrylic and water, which is impossible for Infrared thermography. Visualization results of water-cooled heatsink and heated body in air-cooling duct were shown to indicate the advantages of temperature sensitive paint. It was also mentioned that the system can measure pressure distribution using pressure sensitive paint. Secondary, as an example of flow visualization in commercial products, we showed visualization results of internal air flow in the diffuser of vacuum cleaner by PIV system, which was utilized to improve the cleaner performance. Finally, various visualization techniques to find noise source locations were presented. As a practical method, we introduced a two-dimensional microphone array synchronized with a visual sensor to acquire a picture of a moving source during a measurement.
