Smartification of Wind Tunnel Facilities Using the IoT Technologies

Abstract

There are large scale wind tunnels in JAXA Chofu Aerospace Center. These wind tunnels have been used by not only JAXA users but also by out of JAXA users. Especially, many wind tunnel tests are conducted in JAXA 6.5 m x 5.5 m low-speed wind tunnel (JAXA LWT1) for aerospace applications, and other applications. High efficiency of wind tunnel testing is a particularly critical issue to correspond to further wind tunnel testing needs. On the other hand, the increased risk of long wind tunnel stoppage due to aging is another problem. To solve those problems, automatic wind speed control and real-time anomaly detection utilizing digital twin were studied and demonstrated for JAXA LWT1. These technologies developed in JAXA LWT1 are introduced in this paper.
