The experimented results were compared with theoretical expectations concerning the image processing of the dye concentration. Results revealed that the vertically distributed concentration could be strongly related to that of the uniformly distributed concentration in the water.
The technique of combining the infra-red camera and the above image processing was proposed to attain the estimation of the typical layer depth of the heated water. Consequently, temperatures in the vertical direction can be given by using the self-similarity in the flow.
