A numerical visualization method has been proposed for the particle motions calculated with the three-dimensional distinct element method (DEM). In this method, component-based particle pathlines are drawn for particulate flows consisting of the non-uniform properties, such as particle diameters and densities. The present visualization method was applied to the predicted results for the granular mixture in horizontal and inclined rotating cylinders. As a result, it was confirmed that the component-based particle pathlines show the similar patterns when non-uniform particles are sufficiently mixed, while they become completely different patterns in case that the particles are segregated. Thus, the component-based particle pathlines allows us to obtain the characteristic particle flow patterns which are closely related to the mixing and segregation processes.
