In this paper, we use the meso-scale model MM5 to calculate wind conditions over complex terrain, and discuss the accuracy of the calculation and the higher limit of the horizontal resolution in the model. The wind calculation is performed for a mountainous area in Mie Prefecture with resolutions of 3 km, 1 km and 333 m, and then the accuracy is statistically evaluated. As a result, the accuracy is found to improve with the resolution being up to 333 m. However, the improvement factors gradually become smaller with the resolution, indicating that the resolution of 333 m is nearly the higher limit in the wind calculation with MM5. It is also shown that the calculation with the resolution of 333 m sufficiently satisfies the NEDO-guideline regarding acceptable error ranges of wind calculation.
