Analysis of friction torque and welded interface temperature during first phase in friction welds

Abstract

This paper describes about analysis method of friction torque and welded interface temperature during first phase in friction welds. The friction torque until the initial peak was divided into two stages, i.e., the wear and seizure stages. Friction torque and the welded interface temperature were calculated by FEM analysis code ANSYS. In actual calculation, a friction heat, heat transfer and structural analyses were coupled with any time. The calculated friction torque curve was in approximate agreement with the experimental curve.
