The multi-process handling system (MPHS) which developed in the Toyota production system prevails in the other industries. This study deals with MPHS, as well clarifying its structure from three standpoints of work, process and control, as considering the effects and problems from two sides of theoretical and examples. The author showed that MPHS premises to need the arrangement of equipment in the orde of production process, autonomation (JIDOKA), standardized work (HYOZYUNSAGYO). Furthermore, the author clarified that this system displays much more effects over following matters : they are (1) shortening production period due to the easiness for set-up and flexible workforce (SHOJINKA) (2) the improvement of line-balance due to the baton-touch-zone and so on, (3) the improvement of working efficiency due to the exclusion of defferred works, and so on.
