In accordance with the "Technical Standard and Commentaries for Port and Harbor Facilities in Japan", desirable thickness of foot protection block of the composite type breakwater head as well as the desirable mass of armor stones are set based on the calculation and experimental results by Kimura and others (1996). The chief parameters are water depth and incident wave height. These calculation results would be around 1.5 times more mass compared to the standard portion. However these values are derived from calculation and experimental results for upright breakwater, so the configuration of the breakwater on the mound is not taken into account. This study, involving numerical simulation and hydraulic model experiment, was aimed to investigate the desirable mass of foot-protection blocks and armor stones as well as the armored area, by placing a double cylinder caisson at the breakwater head.
