The concentration of the atmospheric CO2 has been increasing since the middle of the 21st century. The iron and steel industries have produced extremely large amounts of slag as byproduct of the iron making and steel making processes. The purpose of this study is to estimate CO2 sequestration capacity using chemical reaction from steel making slags. The chemical extraction of Ca and Mg from steel slag was investigated and the relationship between the gas transfer velocity and turbulent mixing at the water surface was also experimentally investigated. Based on these experimental results, we developed a numerical model for computing physical-chemical processes and for estimating CO2 sequestration capacity in ocean space.
