The position of frequent occurrence of the calcium deposits in calcific tendinitis of the shoulder is said to be at supraspinatus tendon. In the anatomical field, the incidence of infraspinatus tendon getting over supraspinatus tendon and inserted to the superior facet of the greater tuberosity was discovered. We tried to determine the position of the calcium deposits on MRI. We measured the angle between the bicipital groove and the center of the calcium deposits. Our study population consisted of 28 shoulders whose mean age was 61.9 years old. The angle is 53.4°± 24.6°. The former report said that the boundary line of superior and middle facet is 45.4° external rotated from the bicipital groove. This position has protrusion at the greater tuberosity and provides mechanical stress to the rotator cuff tendon. As these two angles are very close, we guess that calcification appears at the boundary line of the superior and middle facets. Furthermore, we suppose that calcium deposits often occur at infraspinatus tendon.
