Background: We investigated the statistics of all orthopedic surgeries case of all Rosai hospitals.
Methods: We investigated for all 124,252 orthopedic surgery performed in 34 Rosai hospitals for five years We classified these according to the operative method, according to the site We investigated the number of the physicians of the specialism.
Results: Surgery on spinal bone was the most common in the site distinction and was 26,386 (22%)followed by knee (20%) hip joint (21%) hand (11%) foot (7%) shoulders (5%). The ratio of physician of the specialism was 24% 18% 16% 10% 5% 4% respectively. The number of hospitals where there was a shoulder specialist was 9 hospitals and where there was not a shoulder specialist was 25 hospitals. Rotator cuff injury was the most common shoulder problem in the hospitals where there was a shoulder specialist, and the next was recurrent dislocation of shoulder (16%) . The most common shoulder problem in hospitals without a shoulder specialist was clavicle fracture (26%)followed by humerus fracture (19%) rotator cuff injury (11%).
Discussion: The number of surgeries according to the field was quite proportional to the number of the specialists It was confirmed by statistically significant difference that there was much higher number of shoulder surgeries in the hospital where there was a shoulder specialist. It was shown that the shoulder specialist could often operate on a case that was not to do with the physicians the specialty and was more likely to contribute to an increased number of orthopedic surgeries.
