Abstract
This report dealed with correlation of the serum lactic dehydrogenase activity with the clinical status of relatively small group of patients with oral cancer, various oral diseases and apparently healthy subjects. 1) Serum was collected and assayed for LDH activity by colorimetric methods described by Cabaud and Wroblewski. 2) The normal adults range of LDH activity lie between 310 and 390 LDH units per milliliter. 3) Serum LDH activity was elevated in 58 per cent (18 of 31) patients with oral cancer, but elevated in 3.0 per cent (1 of 34) patients with non-cancerous oral diseases. 4) The serum LDH activity is not certain indicator of the presence or absence of neoplastic process, although alteration in serum LDH activity may be helpful in the diagnosis and prognosis of oral cancer.
