Abstract

We have experienced 3 cases of transverse facial cleft (oro-aural cleft) since 1966 in the First Department of Oral Surgery, Kyushu Dental College. Case 1 : two year-old girl with right transverse facial cleft and preauricular tabs Case 2 : two week-old boy with bilateral transverse facial cleft Case 3 : one week-old girl with bilateral transverse facial cleft and ankyloglossia We made chromosomal analysis by peripheral leukocyte culture technic in case 1 and case 2. It showed 46/XX in case 1 and 46/XY in case 2. There were no visible abnormalities. We incised first the fissured skin and the red lip border, then pushed back the dangling mucous menbranes inwards and sutured them together. And then we made two triangles flaps, of which a base on upper lip was in lateral side and another base on the lower lip was in mediam side, replaced each other. We gained a successful result in suturing the two triangle flaps (Z-plasty).
