Abstract
In 2010, newly enrolled students at Kyushu Dental College responded to a questionnaire on oral health and hygiene. We assessed the awareness of oral health among these students. Many of these students underwent treatments for dental caries, periodontal disease, and malocclusion. The students could assess and recognize the condition in their mouth. The average amount of time spent for brushing teeth was determined to be 2‒3 minutes and the average frequency of brushing teeth was 2 times/day. The oral health awareness and oral hygiene maintenance among the students seemed to be at high levels. The students at Kyushu Dental College were more aware about oral health than the general university students. Because periodontal disease and third molar eruption are common problems in the early twenties, awareness of oral health and hygiene is important in this age group.
