Abstract
The author concluded that the presence of moulds and ather organisms in the natural tartar is of secondary significance for its formation and that shaping of spongy structure of organic colloid is rather the originating ground for its formation. The organic substance in colloid have their source naturally in the constistuents of saliva. The chemical examination of the saliva have also corroborated this fact. The author conjectures, therefore, that the colloidal substance in saliva can change its properties by the presence of lactic acid, ammonium, carbonic acide, urease, or phosphatase occurring in the mouth, and moulds and other organisms proliferating in caverns of tartar can cause deposition of calcium salts, and thus hardens gradually the tartar body which was softer at the new-born stage.
