Abstract

The current of the times is getting us forced into the Internet society in spite of our individual will. Based on the goal and purpose of the educational facilities, they should be used to educate a person who can play an active role in that society, of course. In view of these facts, it is hoped that we should make a continuous effort to change our campus into the updated information-oriented one. And all of us should share this concept. From such a point of view, we have promoted the information-oriented project in our college. This year, we have established the third Practice Room for personal computers. With that, in addition to the use of Internet via the first wireless LAN (1.5Mb/s) based on KCAN (Kochi City-sized Area Network), we have started the use of Internet and E-mail based on NTT OCN. Furthermore, because of introducing new Windows NT server and groupware server for the Intranet, our campus network environment has made a rapid progress. At this opportunity, we analyzed the present situation of our network once more. As a result, we found several problems which should be solved in the future. In this paper, we first explain the present network environment in our college, next, evaluate the present situation about it, and finally, mention a proposal to the solution of the above problem. By the way, the teaching methods using the network applicable to the countless teaching materials on the Internet can be superior to the traditional teaching methods. Consequently, coming teaching methods should be considered carefully with this in our mind. This time, one of us set up the personal Web server on our campus network, and constructed the educational environment archiving the teaching materials in it. Using this example, we compared the teaching methods using the network with the traditional way, and examined them. We report the result in this paper, too.
