Flow characteristics of a jet which squirts into a confined flow field through a square or rectangular nozzle have not been clarified enough. This paper makes clear the effects of adjacent flat plates (end plates), form the measurements velocity distributions, turbulent properties etc., on the above mentioned jet flow which squirts from a rectangular nozzle with lower height (a) than that of flow passage (H). Experiments were carried out for flow passages with various a/H. From the results of the detailed measurements, the effects of adjacent flat plates on jet spreading rate, velocity profile, decay of jet-centerline velocity, turbulent intensity etc. are made clear.
