A numerical study was performed to examine the vortical structures and oscillatory momentum transport for both cold and combusting flows from a two-dimensional bluff-body slot burner in the transitional recirculating flow. The Reynolds number for the inner slot fuel flow is varied from 10 to 230 at a fixed Reynolds number of 400 for the outer slot air flow. The flame sheet model of infinite chemical reaction and the unity Lewis number are assumed in the simulation for combusting flow. For cold flow, four different types of vortical structures are identified, depending on the Reynolds number for inner slot flow. In particular, there is a strong interaction between the inner slot jet and the wake from the bluff-body at intermediate Reynolds numbers for the inner slot flow, i. e., vortex cross orver. For combusting flow, the wake development from the bluff-body slot is suppressed, due to a large amount of heat release, which remarkably modifies the vortical structure and oscillatory momentum transport, unike cold flow.
