This paper describes flow rate characteristics of a newly developed filter fan for an air cleaner. The fan is constructed by a pleated filter only, but the filter takes charge both functions of fan and filter. Therefore, it is possible to decrease the thickness of the air cleaner housing. At first, the effect of unit cell volumes of the pleated filter with diameter ratio of 0.50 is discussed. Next, the effect of diameter ratios of the filter fan in which the pleated filter is putted in radial direction is clarified experimentally. The result has shown that a filter fan with a diameter ratio of 0.50 gives the best flow rate. And then the effect of angular positions of the pleated filter with the same diameter ratio on the flow rate is investigated. As a result, it has been found that angular position does not bring any flow rate difference. In coclusion, the optimum profile of filter fan is found to be such one with pleated filter which is putted in radial or inclined backward position with the diameter ratio of 0.50.
