The wind structure and the environmental condition in complex terrain are quite different from those over flat homogeneous terrain, due to local topographic effects. In such type of terrain, the safe and reliable operation of wind turbines depends largely on the environmental and turbulent effects. The purpose of the present work is to investigate the turbulence characteristics of the wind flow over complex terrain such as mountainous region. The wind measurements were carried out at Shitara-cho in Aichi Prefecture during the period from November 19th in 2003 to March 23rd in 2004, using three meteorological masts and ten anemometers. The stochastic characteristics of the turbulent flow have been evaluated by examining the power spectrum and the spatial coherence of the wind fluctuation.
