This paper deals with a transient vibration control subject to an impact force. The conventional dynamic damper fails to suppress the first wave of the transient response due to the delay of the damper motion. By adding a preview action to a dynamic damper, this paper makes it possible to suppress the first wave, usually the maximum value of the transient vibration. First, this paper elucidates the mechanism of the conventional dynamic damper which cannot suppress the first wave. In order to overcome the defect, a new type dynamic damper with a preview action is proposed. Based upon the principle, the optimum design parameters of the dynamic damper are derived. Then, three cases of preview action are introduced, and the control effects in terms of these cases are discussed. Finally, a numerical simulation is caried out, demonstrating the control capability of the dynamic damper with the preview action.
