In a Multi-Beam Satellite Communication System (MBSCS), the high-accuracy mechanical control for the antenna reflector is necessary. This paper describes the design, development and experimental performance of antenna pointing mechanism (APM) for the MBSCS. The mechanism mechanical configration and component performance is documented along with the launch and operational environments of three-axis communications satellite. This model based on nonlubricated direct-drive actuators are particularly appropriate for the APM's requirements ; compact size, low mass, high stiffness, low power consumption and high reliability.
